IKEA furniture giant announced new collaborations at the Democratic Design Days event. The company will team up with Saint Heron, an interdisciplinary cultural hub named after an album by its founder, singer and performance artist Solange Knowles, Apartment Therapy reports.

A 20-second video on Saint Heron’s Instagram says the project will be “exploring architectural and design objects with multifunctional use”. Artist Armina Mussa will join the project.

The collaboration is in its early stage and little information is available, but the mention of the multifunctional approach reminds us the giant’s partnership with Tom Dixon. The collaboration resulted in the sofa and bed DELAKTIG released in February after 18 months of joint work.

Earlier, the company worked with Olafur Eliasson on the project Little Sun. The artist also designed in a harbour the headquarters of Kirk Kapital, a company owned by members of the Lego family.

Marcus Engman, the head of design for IKEA, said he hoped for building “the creative space in between architecture, design, art, and music”.
