At the exhibition Prosthetic Reality in Toronto, each artwork “came to life” through a smartphone.

The exhibition ran at the event space House of VR from August 1 to August 15. Augmented reality technology allowed visitors to interact with physical artworks through their mobile phones.

Though the exhibition featured mainly decorative artworks, it played an important role in art: AR and VR technologies attract a young generation, provoking their keen interest and providing an interactive creative experience.

We earlier wrote about augmented reality in art – a South Korean artist uses AR to create artworks. He chose a more conceptual approach, which proves the technology can be applied in contemporary art.

It also widely used for commercial purposes. The website AR/VR/MR Conference writes that the Royal Bank of Canada offers an app that uses augmented reality to help users find ATMs. The bank received positive feedback and increased the number of customers.

Augmented reality technology has been used in various areas from engineering to advertising.
