Amazon Studios will turn Martin Scorsese’s The Departed, which won four Oscars, into a TV series.
The film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg, was released in 2006 and acclaimed by critics and viewers. Martin Scorsese’s work won four Oscars for best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay and best film editing. The Departed grossed $290 million on a $90 million budget. The film was a remake of the Infernal Affairs.
The series will be produced by Vertigo Entertainment, Initial Entertainment Group and Plan B Entertainment that earlier produced Scorsese’s film. The project will also involve Warner Brothers TV.
The script for The Departed series is written by Jason Richman, the creator of Detroit 1-8-7. He develops the concept of Scorsese’s film and Infernal Affairs about a paralleled infiltration of the mafia and the police and adapts it to our reality. The series is set in present-day Chicago amid wars among ethnic drug gangs. The main character is infiltrated into a Latino gang, which in turn plants its own man in the police. The series shows the two moles each trying to fulfil their mission and stay alive.
