Stary Olsa band raised funds for a new album with the help of a crowdfunding campaign, released the album Medieval Classic Rock and begins a tour to promote their new work.

Stary Olsa, a group playing the music of the Grand Duchy Of Lithuania, launched a Kickstarter campaign in February to raise funds for their new album. They prepared a special teaser for the campaign – a cover version of Metallica’s song One.

The group has played famous rock songs using traditional Belarusian instruments for several years. The musicians then decided to put them together into an album, and the idea was supported by Kickstarter users. Stary Olsa collected almost $30.000 from more than 1,000 people with a goal of $7.000. They released the album Medieval Classic Rock in the US and begin a tour across the country today.

The album with a circulation of 1,000 copies includes nine tracks: medieval versions of classic rock songs originally played by the Beatles and Pink Floyd, AC/DC and Deep Purple, Metallica and Black Sabbath, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana. Familiar songs have a new sound and a unique mood due to such medieval instruments as lute, cister, hurdy-gurdy, bagpipe, gusli, tromba marina, shawm and rebec.

US-based company 24 Hour Distribution was dealing with licensing and copyright issues. The disk can be purchased only in the US at the moment, but its digital version is available on Bandcamp.

Stary Olsa’s tour across the United States will last until the end of September. The band plans to play 30 concerts and then present the new album in Belarus in November.
