A new initiative offers to host travellers at your home and learn their language.
There are more than 7,000 languages spoken in the world. In this world divided by language barriers communication plays an important role not only in understanding one another, but also in expanding cross-cultural ties and promoting peace among nations.
Learning a foreign language has never been so available as now, in the internet era. To speak a foreign language well you need to practice it. And the best way to do it is to talk to native speakers.
The initiative TalkTalkBnb offers the most available way to solve this task. It was launched as a website by French entrepreneur Hubert Laurent and a group of students from universities across Brittany, France. The project wants to connect people learning foreign languages all over the world. The idea is simple: the people who want to study a particular language open their doors for travellers from around the world who speak it. Travellers have accommodation, meals and a good company in exchange for communication and language lessons. It is like couchsurfing, but with social and cultural aspects.
Hosts get an opportunity to learn and practice a language with native speakers at home, and travellers have accommodation, homemade meals, contact with local people, advice on where to go and what to do.
Launched in March 2016, the website already has more than 6,000 users in more than 50 countries, and this number continues to grow. The project’s authors underline that their aim is to promote meaningful travel and cultural exchange, which is a significant element for building a peaceful society based on mutual understanding.
