An art installation for the rights of women was held during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
New York-based photographer Spencer Tunick is known for his conceptual works involving large groups of naked people. He called on women in May to join his political project. Tunick gathered 100 volunteers, asked them to strip naked, take large mirror disks and stand in front of the building in Cleveland where the Republican National Convention was taking place.
The installation is called Everything She Says Means Everything. Its aim is to reflect the knowledge and wisdom of progressive women, Tunick says. Donald Trump is notoriously known for his offensive comments about women and disrespect for them and their role in society.
“By holding mirrors, we hope to suggest that women are a reflection and embodiment of nature, the sun, the sky and the land. The mirrors communicate that we are a reflection of ourselves, each other, and of, the world that surrounds us. The woman becomes the future and the future becomes the woman,” the photographer wrote about the installation on his website.
The photographer’s team says more than 1,800 women signed up to participate. They didn’t know where exactly they will need to undress, because the location was kept secret. Only 100 volunteers were invited to take part in the project for coordination reasons and in order not to disclose the location prematurely.
