Artist and activist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara was arrested by Cuban police for staging a performance on the eve of the Thirteenth Havana Biennial, Artforum reports

Two more artists were involved in the performance. Their whereabouts are unknown. They were detained near Alcántara’s house in the San Isidro neighborhood of Old Havana shortly after they began a performance.

The artistic act was a homage to activist Daniel Llorente who hoisted an American flag during a May Day parade in the Plaza of Revolution in 2017. He spent a year in a psychiatric facility and was arrested after the discharge when he tried to deliver a letter to the UNICEF headquarters with a proposal to organise a march against child abuse. His whereabouts are also unknown
