Artists and Trump’s opponents often use the star in protests to criticise and condemn the US president’s policy

Los Angeles-based artist Plastic Jesus put Trump’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star behind bars.

“There have been calls to jail Trump since the day he was elected, and today he was certainly put behind bars—or at least his now infamous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was caged,” the artist wrote in an email to news.artnet.com with attached photos.

“Although it was very quickly damaged by a Trump supporter trying to remove it, the bars did appear to be stuck fast and were there several hours later—to the amusement of thousands of passing tourists,” he added. The work was installed at 11am.

Trump’s star has no security and protection except for surveillance cameras. It makes the object an attractive target for artists. Earlier, Plastic Jesus built a wall around the star, criticising Trump’s immigration policy. On July 25, a 24-year-old man destroyed the star with a pickax, but it was repaired the same day.
