A photo of Angela Merkel and other world leaders standing over seated Donald Trump at the G7 summit went viral on social media. Twitter users even compared it to Renaissance paintings, the Guardian reports.
This year’s G7 summit took place in Charlevoix, Canada. At the event, the leaders of Germany, Japan, Canada, the US, Italy, France and the UK mainly discussed trade.
However, one of the photographs reflected a division between the politicians. The office of Germany’s Chancellor published a picture on Instagram with the caption: “Day two of the G7 summit in Canada: spontaneous meeting between two working sessions.” The moment was captured by the official photographer of the German Chancellor’s office Jesco Denze.
Some Twitter users noticed a hidden tension between Merkel and Trump. Journalists even called the summit “G6 plus 1” after Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal and recent tariffs on trade.
