Artist Chun Kai Qun was sentenced to six months in jail for stalking and harassing the woman whose name hasn’t been released, Art Asia Pacific reports. They met in 2015 and became friends, but then he followed her four times a month from her work to her home, sent up to 17 emails a day and tried to damage her relations with her colleagues.

The woman gave him to understand a romantic relationship was impossible, but he continued writing to her and created fake email accounts to bypass her spam filter. According to Artforum, one of his messages read: “I think proximity hurts and it’s fun and damn psycho to keep writing. A little weird erotic in a way.”

The victim went to the police in July 2016. In October, Chun Kai Qun agreed cease all contact. The following month, he resumed sending her multiple emails. The woman showed all his messages to the police.

The artist’s lawyer, Sunil Sudheesan, sought a softer sentence of 3 months, saying that Chun Kai Qun suffered from depression and anxiety and calling his emails a “misguided attempt at managing [his] tensions”. The court agreed with the prosecution that demanded a 6-month sentence. Chun Kai Qun will start serving his sentence on March 12.
