His personal exhibition Sunshower opened at the Signature Gallery Group in Las Vegas.

The artist says he turned to art because he had no other choice. It’s a sort of art therapy brought to the public eye. He speaks about it with artnet.com: “Making art in general is not really a choice. I’m being painted and I’m being expressed and I’m being created, and there’s little me involved.”

The exhibition is a big commercial project. Tickets to the opening cost $10,000 per couple. Entire amount applied toward Carry’s artwork of the attendee’s choice. Hollywood celebrities, such as Brad Pitt, James Franco and others, showed their interest in his paintings.

The Guardian ‘s art critic Jonathan Jones was straightforward about Carrey’s art: “Hollywood stars should avoid the canvas.<…> Crudely coloured Jesus-like faces, lurish fluorescent portraits, random abstractions and kitshch clay figures – this is a joke. Please, say it’s a joke.”
