The world premiere of The Promise will take place in Los Angeles on April 21.

The film directed by Terry George, who is known for Hotel Rwanda, centers on the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century. The movie stars Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale and Charlotte Le Bon. The film, which was first screened at the Toronto Film Festival in September, will go on wide release on April 21. The Armenian release is scheduled for April 27.

A lot of celebrities watched The Promise at private screenings during film events. Some of them, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Barbara Streisand, Elton John, Sylvester Stallone and George Clooney, showed support for the film authors and praised them for their excellent work and raising the theme in art.

Prominent Hollywood actor George Clooney, who already made comments on the Armenian genocide, attended the London screening of the film. Musician Chris Cornell, the author of the film’s soundtrack, posted a photo of the actor at the premiere.

Clooney advocates for the recognition of the Armenian genocide in the world. He is a member of the selection committee of the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity, which is awarded to those who risk their lives to prevent genocides and crimes against humanity.

“The genocide is a part of Armenia's history, it's also a part of the world's history, it's not the pain of one nation only,” George Clooney said earlier.

The Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire took place in 1915-1923. It was the first genocide in the 20th century. Turkey and Azerbaijan deny it and show a negative reaction to criticism by western government and human rights groups on the issue. Activists hold campaigns to officially recognise the events of the early 20th century a genocide.
