The writer shared his plans and commented on the Golden Globe awards.

George Martin hopes to release the next novel in the book series that inspired Game of Thrones. He said it talking to his fans on his LiveJournal blog.

He warns his fans against excessive joy and doesn’t want to feel too liable to his readers for deadlines. The author stressed he believed a year ago he would finish the book earlier, but he didn’t make as much progress as he expected. However, he hopes the new book Winds of Winter will be released this year. Martin earlier promised not to appear in public unless his next book was finished.

The writer expressed his disappointment with last weekend’s Golden Globes. Neither Lena Headey, who played Cersei in Game of Thrones, nor the series were awarded. Martin said he was upset that Westworld and its two actresses nominated for the award lost. According to him, awarding The Crown was a safe choice to honour the “prestige” work. The writer, however, noted he liked the series and joked:

“It may have been good to be the king in the Middle Ages, it really sucked to be the queen in the 1950s.”

George Martin said Meryl Streep's speech was the highlight of the Golden Globes 2017.
