Disney’s new film is titled Moana, but it will be released in Italy under the name of Oceania.
Due to the decision to rename the movie, Italian families searching for information about the film on the Internet won’t meet pornographic content. Disney’s new work is originally called Moana, but it’s also the name of famous Italian port star of the 1980s-1990s Moana Pozzi, who played in more than a hundred of porn movies and became popular in Italy. The actress died in 1994 at the age of 33.
Disney studio’s representatives in California don’t say straight that is was the reason to rename the film. The studio changes names internationally for a variety of reasons, the film authors commented on the title change.
The original title, closely associated with a famous porn star, Moana? will be replaced in Italy by Oceania. The movie is set to be released in Italy on December 22. It is the first Disney’s film about a princess from the Pacific Ocean region. The story is set a mystic island in Polynesia, where the 16-year-old daughter of the chief of the tribe is chosen by the ocean to find legendary demigod Maui to save her people.
The movie is released in other European countries under the name Vaiana, which means “water cave”, as Moana is a registered trademark in several countries. The main character’s name was changed to Vaiana as well.
Moana Pozzi had an Oceanian name because her parents found it on a map of Hawaii and thought they liked the word. In the early 1980s, she worked on a children's TV show, when her first porn movie, Valentina, Girl in Heat, was released. However, Pozzi denied she starred in the film. Despite the actress’s protests, she was fired from children’s TV. It provoked a media scandal, which helped her promote herself. Even Federico Fellini wanted to invite her for a role in Ginger and Fred. She was a regular guest on TV shows, raising social and political issues and advocating for gay rights and sexual freedom. She and another famous porn star, Cicciolina, founded the Love Party of Italy. She ran for the mayor of Rome, promising to legalise brothels, develop sexual education in schools and create “love parks”. Her image inspired several films after her death, including Guardami (Look at me) and I Segreti di Moana (The Secrets of Moana).
