Monologue for Two: Luke Harding

Luke Harding is a very unusual person to listen to, as he combines the knowledge of the Russian and Eastern European government with British roots and upbringing. He describes his life and Russia, and some aspects of which make you feel that you are listening to a James Bond novel. He describes the situation under which he was interrogated by the FSB and you really start to question whether or not Russia actually evolved since the KGB times.

Clear contrast between British and Russian security services is that unlike western, Russian tactics is blunt and they do not try to hide their doings, they underline the fact that they spy upon you, that you are under constant danger of being a target. This method works upon the basics of the physiological harassment, which is so close to the Soviet tactics.

Furthermore, Luke Harding describes a very controversial case of Alexander Litvinenko's death and provides you with most likely previously unknown insights that instantly engage you in the long going process of eight years, that is the Litvinenko case. In addition, Harding highlights that even the KGB themselves acknowledge how badly the actual assassination was done, as the trail left and the evidence was enormous.

Harding describes Putin's paranoiac relationship with the West, exaggerating the fact that Putin's mindset hasn't potentially moved far from the Cold War one.

About Monologue for Two

An inspiring short film interview series spanning generations and cross-pollinating subjects, brought to you by 16 year old Daniella Kaliada who explains, “I'm 16 years old and I am a political refugee in the UK. Four years ago I was smuggled out of Belarus with my parents during the dictatorship’s deadly election crackdown. Living in London, I finally discovered freedom and have come to understand that it is multifaceted. In this interview series I ask luminaries in their field, how they came to do what they do and advice they can give my generation. As I approach leaving school and getting on in the world, I seek to understand the lessons learned by previous generations and the wisdom they can pass on.”
