Dialogues with Nicolai Khalezin. Maria Alyokhina
Maria Alyokhina is a member of Pussy Riot group. She was sentenced to two years in prison for the performance "Mother of God, Drive Putin Away" in Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Savior in 2012. She served her term in a prison colony in the village of Berezniki, Perm Krai.
After the release, she and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova launched Zona Prava (Zone of Rights), a prisoners' rights organisation, and MediaZona, a news website. Maria is a human rights activist.
The dialogue took place as Belarus Free Theatre started its work on Burning Doors show. It will be staged in summer 2016, and the world premiere is set for August 23 in Leicester, England. Maria plays herself in the show.
