Creative Arts Emmy Awards for technical and other similar achievements were handed out ahead of the Primetime Emmy Award ceremony.

Creative Arts Emmy Awards are given to behind-the-scenes personnel. HBO’s main TV show received the biggest number of trophies. The epic fantasy drama based on George Martin’s novels earned a total of 23 Emmy nominations, including 15 at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, nine of which it won. Results on eight remaining nominations will be known on September 18.

The sixth season improved the last year’s achievements of the series, when Game of Thrones won eight Creative Arts Emmy Awards. This time awards were given for casting in a drama series, costumes for a period/fantasy series, prosthetic makeup for a series, sound mixing for a comedy or drama series, special visual effects and several other categories.

The list of other winners includes series Making a Murderer, Sherlock, American Horror Story: Hotel, Fargo and Downton Abbey; animated series Family Guy and Archer; late-night talk show Last Week Tonight With John Oliver. The awarded actors are: Hank Azaria, Margo Martindale, Peter Scolari, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

The Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 18. Game of Thrones has the biggest number of nominations and will try to keep its place on the iron throne of the best modern TV drama series.
