The lead writer of the detective saga says season 4 could be the last.
Sherlock’s New Year's Day special, The Abominable Bride, was watched by 12 million people, bringing the BBC six Emmy nominations. The team has remained silent until recently. However, there’s no so much news about Sherlock – only a photograph from the new season. The lead writer of the British series hinted the new season could be the last.
The photo released by the BBC depicts Benedict Cumberbatch as the legendary detective. Who’s next to him is not Martin Freeman’s character Watson, but a four-legged companion – a dog.

Nobody knows when exactly the new episodes will be on screens, but January 1, 2017 was reported earlier as the most probable release date. What seems to be more probable is that Sherlock season 4 will be the last. The series writer Steven Moffat said it in an interview with The Telegraph: “I don't know how long we can keep it going. I'm personally willing but I'm hardly the main draw. I would be moderately surprised if this was the last time we ever made this show. But it absolutely could be.”
The modern-day crime drama based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories has been achieving the highest ratings and recognised among the best series around the world since season 1 was released in 2010. The work is recognised as one of the most popular BBC series ever.
