The traditional festival in Pamplona is known all over the world for running of the bulls events that involve thousands of people.
Annual celebrations in honour of Saint Fermin, the patron of Navarre, an autonomous community in northern Spain with the capital Pamplona, starts tomorrow at noon. The festival is traditionally carried out at the beginning of July, attracting thousands of tourists.
The festival became popular with the English-speaking audience due to Ernest Hemingway’s book The Sun Also Rises. The fiesta of San Fermin is probably the most famous Spanish festival in the world. Over a million of people annually come to Pamplona for the event.
The main event of the festival is the running of the bulls through the streets of the medieval town. Participants wear red clothes, tease bulls and run from them through the narrow streets of Pamplona. Foreigners run along with the locals to get an unusual experience despite risk. Injuries are not a rare thing among participants.
Besides dangerous but always funny bull runs, visitors can watch numerous processions, musical and artistic performances, as well as taste national dishes. The festival of San Fermin will last until July 14.
