Philippe Sands is a Professor of Law and Director of the Centre on International Courts and Tribunals at University College London. He is a specialist in international law and a practicing lawyer who has appeared before various international courts and tribunals.He is the author of 17 books on international law, and president of English PEN and a vice president of the Hay Festival. His most recent book East West Street: On the Origins of 'Genocide' and 'Crimes Against Humanity' - part historical detective story, part family history, part legal thriller - to connect his work on 'crimes against humanity' and 'genocide', the events that overwhelmed his family in Lviv during World War II.
