At a session of the Paris Council to discuss a culture plan, the city mayor Anne Hidalgo proposed that Paris could be turned into a “refuge for storing artworks from around the world”.

The financial institution Crédit Municipal de Paris will rent premises of several hundreds square metres for safe storage of artworks at risk from countries hit by wars or catastrophes, Le Figaro reports.
“Paris will be a safe haven for works under threat,” Anne Hidalgo said. According to her, the French capital will provide “secure storage spaces for as much time as necessary”. The initiative will be implemented by Crédit Municipal de Paris, the institution known for its experience in conservation and recovery of artworks since the 17th century.
The plan involved collaboration with the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Zones (Aliph), an organisation founded in Geneva in March 2017, as well with Paris’s partner cities abroad.
