He reported as a journalist in eastern Europe on the revolutions of 1989, is international advocacy director at Amnesty International. He worked previously at Human Rights Watch, and before that as a journalist at the Independent. He is co-author with John Jackson of Small Acts of Resistance: How Courage, Tenacity and Ingenuity Can Change the World.
