They organise a protest action against a concert by Svetlana Loboda, which is due to take place this weekend.
Ukrainian patriotic activists accuse Loboda of playing concerts in Russia despite the military conflict between the countries. The protest rally is organised by Sergiy Sternenko, a former head of a local department of the nationalistic organisation Right Sector. He accused the artist of mercenariness and urged to disrupt the singer’s concert, calling her a “lover of Russian rubles” and a “collaborationist”. He said her concert is defiance to Odesa residents.
According to the activist, the person who in fact supports Russia’s aggression in Ukraine by her shows in Russia and ties with local politicians is going to perform in Odesa while Ukrainian soldiers and civilians continue to die in eastern Ukraine.
“I call on everyone to join a rally against this mercenary and lover of Russian rubles at 21:00 on Sunday, May 28! The collaborationist’s concert in Odesa is defiance to all of us!” Sternenko says.
Svetlana Loboda is a former member of VIA Gra (Nu Virgos) pop group who has been performing solo since 2004. She was actively involved in the 2009 election campaign, supporting the team of fugitive Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych. She found herself at the centre of another scandal a few months ago. Her guards attacked Ukrainian journalists. Her producer threatened that Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov would use violence against them.
