The women’s rights activist, fighter for reforms and slavery abolition will be played by Oscar-winning Brie Larson.

Amazon plans to shoot a film about Victoria Woodhull, who became the first woman who worked on Wall Street and the first US presidential candidate 40 years before women received the right to vote.

The main character will be played by Brie Larson, who last year won an Oscar for best actress for her part in Lenny Abrahamson’s Room. The actress, who is also known for Kong: Skull Island), 21 Jump Street and The Gambler, will also serve as a producer. The script will be written by actor and screenwriter Ben Kopit.

Victoria Woodhull was a political activist and suffragist. She ran for the US presidency in 1872. Woodhull became a symbol of struggle for freedoms for women. She fought for women’s rights to marry, divorce and have children without government interference.

Producer Justine Carriocchi works on a film about another prominent feminist, Margaret Sanger. She founded Planned Parenthood, an organisation that promoted birth control and struggled to legalise contraception in the US.
