Russian MP Vitaly Milonov thinks the film is a source of gay propaganda.
Vitaly Milonov, a member of the Russian State Duma, addressed the country’s minister of culture Vladimir Medinsky with a request to ban the screening of Power Rangers, a big-screen adaptation of the iconic TV show. The politician explains his demand with the need to protect Russian children from gay propaganda, lots of which can be found in the movie, according to him.
The film’s director Dean Israelite said recently his film would feature the first lesbian superhero ever. The movie, which was easily granted a screening license in Russia, was screened yesterday a 16-plus age restriction.
Milonov, who is known for his struggle for preserving conservative traditions of Russian society, said the official who had issued the license should be dismissed with disgrace. He also called on the Ministry of Culture to ban the screening of the film.
“Let he work in an American fast-food restaurant,” the MP said about the specialist who evaluated the film.
The politician also proposed boycotting all films by Dean Israelite. Two weeks ago, Milonov wanted to impose a ban on Beauty and the Beast for the same reason. The film premiered on March 17. However, the Russian Ministry of Culture gave the movie a screening license with a 16-plus age restriction. The world premiere of Power Rangers is scheduled for March 24.
