The Danish filmmaker says his new project is influenced by US president Donald Trump’s rise to power.
Von Trier’s new film titled The House That Jack Built will be set in Washington in the 1970-80s. The movie will follow 12 years in the life of a serial killer.
The director said about the project that it will draw parallels with today’s political situation in the US, in particular with new president Donald Trump’s rise to power. According to Von Trier, his work will celebrate the idea that “life is evil and soulless, which is sadly proven by the recent rise of the Homo trumpus – the rat king.”
It’s worth noting that Lars von Trier has been avoiding talking to the press about his new works after his unsuccessful joke about Hitler at a Melancholia press conference.
The filmmaker plans to start shooting The House That Jack Built in Sweden in March. The film will star Matt Dillon, Riley Keough and Bruno Ganz. The release is scheduled for 2018. Von Trier shared a tease photo with a reference to Carl Dreyer’s classic horror Vampyr (1932).
